Union Berlin has appointed Marie-Louise Eta as the first female head coach in the men’s Bundesliga as it bids to ensure its league survival.
Amazing! I wish her the best! Let’s see how it goes.
Good on her. Fingers crossed, we’ll see more filter into the league game, and maybe even see a woman top the list of best candidates for a national team manager role.
The Premier League missed a trick with Sarina Wiegman. I know it’s also dependent on vacancies and whether Wiegman wants another job, but that would be an excellent next step for her.
Finally:
She becomes the first woman to take charge of a men’s team across the top divisions of Europe’s “big five” soccer leagues.
Since it’s such a common thing for men to coach a womens’ team, it’s only natural that at some point a woman would coach a mens’ team. I guess that time is now. I wish her good luck and I am genuinely curious how the reactions by some of the weirder parts of German football punditry will go nuts about this (Mario Basler, anyone?).
