    Explain like I’m 5 million years ago. (Well, 500,000 is more like it, but there’s no nifty name for that, so a chat with monke it is)

      To anyone about to pounce on this hoser that apes aren’t monkes: all apes are a branch within the monkes and you can’t evolve out of a clade (monophyly). So either apes are monkes, or the word ape is synonymous with catarhini (making rhesus macaques also apes), or monkes don’t exist. The reason science goes with the first is that monkeys all share similar body plans while us apes have the weird derived features you damn, dirty apes!

        Thank you, although I feel like using the meme spelling offered some protection anyway.

        Also public service announcement that pachyderm is no longer a category of any meaning. I made a wet of myself with that one, once.
