I know one shouldn’t be installing apps from shady sources, but what if I just want to try out and app before actually purchasing it from the play store.

Mobilism. Comments work similar to torrent comments on giving me warnings if an apk is bad or its because the user doesnt know how to differentiate against false flags/actually dumb.
I used to use mobilism and would recommend it. Nowadays I just find foss alternatives
For real, FOSS alternatives are pretty damn good, I have learned so much since I got here.
Mobilism most of the time and also Telegram channels from modder groups.
Are these telegram groups invite only or could I perhaps join?
They’re public groups, maybe there are better private groups but then you might as well go to Mobilism and make an App request. I prefer these channels to the modder’s website because you don’t get anti-adblock banners and it’s faster to search.
Look for RBMods, MixRoot Mods, there is also a LiteApk channel. Those are what I have at the moment. I’m sure there are many others you can find through those channels alone.

Worth looking into mobilism forum. They have modded apks to unlock premium stuff, not sure if what they have is ratted, just make sure you’re on the real forum. (I believe it’s the .org domain? correct me if I’m wrong)
