I’m a stubborn SOAB. I purposely go out of my way to avoid most of these apps, even if it inconveniences me to no end. I just won’t use your service, too easy.

Heard this. Tried to rent heavy equipment from Home Depot and was asked to scan a QR code, couldn’t rent it without. But it was a blessing in disguise, found a small family business near by that was cheaper and better equipment. Had the same issue with restaurant menus, fuck that shit, got up and left.

The truth is that the apps are better able to harvest data and metadata to be packaged sold to advertisers or the government. An app on your phone goes most places you do and is likely always online to be streaming metrolgy back to the rent seeking app companies.

Loyalty programs have always been a scam.

I’ve got an iPad with 0 permissions that’s full of all those bullshit things. My phone doesn’t get anything on it unless I pay for it (outside of Google, fucking Google the necessary evil)

Paying for something doesn’t mean it’s not spying on you. In fact, often it’s the contrary, FOSS apps are free and least likely to sell your data.
