I have a Greenland paddle which I sanded down and oiled using linseed oil, but I filled in some of the dents and such using wood filler. Are there any paints that would be good for colour matching them? I’ll be paddling in the ocean.

Thanks!

You can experiment on a separate piece of wood with some stains and paints, but in my (albeit very amateur) experience filler is hard to color after the fact, especially if you’ve already oiled it.

My take is it’s easiest to mix your own color match using colored fillers, fill, then seal. You want to color match the final finished/oiled wood, since the filler does not change color with finishing, unlike raw wood.

Thanks, I don’t mind if it’s a bit off, just closer than it is. I’m mostly worried about the paint degrading in salt water though

I think maybe I would mix some stain with linseed oil and apply another coat to darken it.

If you were set on paint then maybe try marine touchup paint?
