i’m gonna take a little break from discord, but part of me still wants to use it. are there any alternatives to discord that even discord users have (with real-time responding and all)?

I don’t really know, but the first thing that pops into my head is Matrix because that’s what we use for Lemmy development & management.
what’s the most active matrix spaces?
I have no idea because I only use it in the context of Lemmy. Chat isn’t really my thing except to work on specific projects.
