Me using Debian and encountering yet another program or installer hardcoded to only support Ubuntu (looking at you, ROCm). 🌝

Oh I went through a similar hell getting rocm working on opensuse.

You can either compile it yourself or find someone who has and add them to your repositories.

I was at some point contemplating setting up a compiling instance on home server, because of the crapton of all the different one-time use packages for compiling stuff.

I was making a comment about the new Xbox handhelds and how no one should trust Microsoft to keep ads and telemetry collection out of their handhelds even if it launches without any signs of it. Microsoft has historic precedent of Darth Vadering those deals. An idiot confidently replied to tell me no one wants to use “user unfriendly Linux”.

Luckily I was able to demonstrate to him that Linux is entirely neutral to users… Linux users are the ones who are unfriendly.

Well actually I just offered to sell him a lightly used bridge. Don’t really have it in me to be too insulting to people just because they are ignorant and vocal about it.

My Bluetooth works to varying degrees on my Arch set-up but I’ll be cold and dead in the ground before I use Microsoft on purpose again.

You can get around the account requirement with one or two commands during the install. Should be trivial for anyone capable of running Linux

I was trying to explain to someone why I used Linux and their reasoning for not wanting to was because they didnt want to have to input commands. I told them how I don’t have to input any commands to get Linux installed but do to get windows installed and they didnt believe me

I don’t understand this. I’ve had two win 11 installations over about 2 years and I’ve never had a Microsoft account or had to log in to one. Am I doing something wrong?

Nah you are using it correctly. I would advise everyone to avoid the Microsoft store, I would advise everyone to avoid the play store and app store as well, but Apple showed Google and Microsoft that they can make a lot of money locking people into using them

I had to work with windows last night and it was repeatedly deleting programs against my consent no matter what antivirus settings I tried to turn off (“quarantining” Produkey, off of my flash drive not even the drive windows was installed on) so yes. Fuck that guy and burn his house down 😁
