In Mario Kart every player gets access to items just by driving, and most of the powerful ones do all the work (driving for you, aiming automatically etc)
In Smash the better player can monopolize the items, and is better able to use them.
Maybe the next Smash should find a way to change that - give everyone items, better ones to the losing players, and a make them a bit more foolproof. Could actually make casual play a lot more fun.
A true smasher would say, “Fuck it, we ballin’.”
Items on or off we out here.
For the rule of cool, Smash players should tune it down a bit when you’re playing with friends, especially those that are brand new to the game.
We used to talk massive shit on each other in Mario Kart. Some players sucked but got wins through items, which is the fun of the game.
Well, we got to the point of just turning off items and raced every single track with no items. It was one of the most silent and uneventful series we did. But we all learned who was the best racer that day.
We never did it again, too boring lol.
I grew up on Need for Speed and Burnout. Turns out no one actually enjoys those games and everyone wants to play Mario Kart. Always annoyed me that I have legitimate skill that I almost never get to show off to friends :/
You’re talking like you can’t get good at Mario Kart, I assure you, you can.
I’ve tried, but I just don’t enjoy it as much. I much prefer a focus on wheel-to-wheel racing. I don’t just want to win. I want direct competition.
Burnout 3 was peak racing game for me. Great split-screen and simple but addictive game modes. Paradise could never
Unfortunately Mario Kart will never be as good as Burger King’s Pocketbike Racer.
eh sneak-king was good, thought pocketbike was kinda meh.
Nah both were great! I can’t remember what the third one was now though.
Items in MK8 are much more punishing than in previous entries. With its simplistic driving mechanics compared to older entries, it’s much more luck based than other games.
Sounds like cope to me.
any criticism of a game’s difficulty means you’re bad at it
When talking about one of the easier entries in a series, yes.
7 was more punishing as far as items go. 64 was more difficult mechanically. SNES and Super Circuit cheated way more.
The only installment easier than 8 was Double Dash.
DD’s driving is much more technical than MK8, but it is balanced by items not slowing you down as much. In MK8, driving is not as deep, but items slow you down too much and it becomes unbalanced. You can be 1st all race yet still finish 6th because of a single red shell in the last turn. The same situation in DD would make you end up in 3rd at worse.
Maybe try iRacing if you want pure driving.
Items are for COWARDS.
