A New Orleans councilwoman has issued a statement voicing her concerns over the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary announcing he is barring Mayor LaToya Cantrell from working with the federal department.
In a letter posted by Secretary Scott Turner on X addressed to Cantrell, he says he has suspended her from participating in procurement with HUD.
The letter reads, “The Department of Housing and Urban Development hereby notifies you of your immediate suspension from participation in procurement and no procurement transactions as a participant or principal with HUD.”
Turner cites the mayor’s August indictment as the reasoning behind the measure.
“I have determined that your immediate suspension is necessary to protect the public interest,” Secretary Turner writes, adding: “The information’s allegations evidence the Government faces a serious and immediate risk of harm if you are permitted to continue doing business with it.”
Gee, I wonder what could possibly be the consequence if nobody can get housing approval? Hmm, more unhoused people now on the street, and National Guard likely being deployed here and looking for ways to keep themselves busy.
Thanks for looking out for the people of our city like that Scott.
