I think it’s just a small subset of people, tbh. I know some redditors didn’t like it but that’s probably just reddit being reddit.
Per the other response, it’s kind of an over-reaction to the term to the point that it’s been equated with the British “spaz”, where it’s offensive because it tends to refer to someone with mental disabilities. It’s entering the euphemism treadmill
