Various maple species grow all the way down to Florida, not to mention Europe and eastern Asia. And even if you’re talking about the sugar maple specifically, most of its range is in the US, not Canada: The only thing special about Canada is that that’s where it gets cold enough for the sap to run so it can be collected for syrup.
