For science, art, governance, and literature, the local elites used the “high” Russian language. This says that they got as far as Yelets. That’s 392 km from the Kremlin, according to Google Maps.
But, yes, general point stands.
Yeah, they gotta be running pretty low on farm boys at this point. Putins gonna wipe out an entire generation of men if he keeps this up. Not good for the long term health of a nation. But I doubt he ever thinks past next month.
