Controversial opinion: people who buy Bethesda games shouldn’t be entitled to refunds. They should know better at this point.
Remember that this isn’t the Bethesda that made Oblivion. This is the Bethesda that makes Fallout 76.

Look. Morrowind pushed a lot of boundaries and some of the bugs were excusable… Oblivion less so and so on and so forth. New Vegas was absolutely a broken and buggy mess with a great story line.
As of April 12th 2025 the steam release of Fallout 3 is still broken out of the box and requires 3rd party tools to fix.

I played these games up to Skyrim new. I still have my boxed copies.
Buy it if you want. My opinion is that the store page should say “This title is not eligible for a refund due to a reasonable person knowing better than to buy this new”

I think it’s also worth remembering that this remaster isn’t being made by Bethesda. Virtuos are the ones remastering/remaking the game and their portfolio is pretty much exclusively ports, remasters and remakes. I don’t know the details of how much they’re using Unreal Engine (the leaks state that the game will be running on UE), but I think that pretty much rules out Bethesda’s involvement beyond IP consultancy because they don’t have UE experience.
I’m all for being critical of the shit Bethesda puts out, but I’m not going to dismiss someone’ work simply because the name Bethesda is attached to it.
Not to be confrontational. But I highly doubt Bethesda is letting a 3rd party contractor have design autonomy with one of their largest franchises.
Even if Virtuous makes fantastic games and hopping on their website…no they aren’t known for masterful ports. But even if they were, Bethesda still holds the purse strings. It’s still going to be a broken, buggy mess with a cash shop.
Making a good game takes time and resources. Bethesda is not in the business of making good games anymore. they haven’t for a long time.

Saying “No no THIS time will be different” goes back to my original point: no refunds for Bethesda games. You know better and it’s more your fault than theirs at this point

My message is very simple and I’ll preface it with the obvious. Don’t buy anything until you’ve read the reviews. The actual people working on the remaster/remake are not Bethesda. That means that just because Bethesda is shit doesn’t mean the game will be shit. It might be good. But we don’t know what it will be until it releases and reviews are out, so don’t instantly dismiss it simply because there’s a Bethesda logo somewhere.

You think it’s okay to take away consumer rights to, I suppose, stick it to a billion dollar company. And anyone disagreeing with you (as in anyone thinking consumer rights shouldn’t be taken away) are defending a billion dollar company. In all my RenoDX mods I add a Color Grading slider. I suspect that slider is going to be a popular one with this game.
I am way too excited for this, one of my all time faves and my introduction to the fantasy genre. Hope it is a solid attempt and hopefully they fix the level scaling issues.
