For me it was that I really liked the music and I LOVED the style, it was so striking and fun. I also found it really welcoming, and people of all types were welcomed and included.
I have always been into metal growing up and have a new coworker who is goth and it has intrigued me into learning about the subculture. It has been fun broadening my musical taste and watching different YouTube channels on the topic.
Some really awesome music in the various genres (subgenres?) under the goth umbrella!!
I am not immersed at the moment but it has awakened a realization that I really wish to express myself more and that has been fun :)
Absolutely there’s a surprising range and IME they’re always really keen to share it
Chatted with him today about some of the music I enjoyed during my exploration and one of the bands I liked a bunch is one of his favorites :) made my day
Love of style and music. Although i don’t dress Alt anymore (Can’t. I basically wore lingerie as clothing lol) I love industrial music though still to this day.
I also sew and learned how when I was 12. I didn’t grow up rich, so if there was anything I wanted, I’d always make my own version of it instead bc I couldn’t buy it.
And I think that’s what stuck with me. The ability to DIY, is abundant in alt lifestyle and that’s what I love. The ability to achieve your own version of perfection.
I’ve always been into punk because of the DIY style. Still love it and it’s ethic.
