In response to the imposition of new, unjustified US tariffs on EU steel and aluminium imports, the Commission has launched swift and proportionate countermeasures on US imports into the EU.

Just a reminder that the coming recession will be blamed on immigrants, canadians, woke boycotts, Ukraine, renewable energy, LGBTIQ+, and so on.
If you’re hoping it will make MAGA idiots reject Trump, it won’t. It just provides more fuel to drive fascist agendas.
“Now is not a good time for an election because the business community needs stability during this transitional period of recovery.”
I’m european (as you probably noticed with my lemmy instance), for me the most important message of what is happening now is that we need to be less dependend on the US. The fact that this can happen and damage us so much means we need to be more self sufficient.
As a kid/teen I wanted to move to the US, now as an adult I noticed how good we have it here.
Indeed!
I’m Australian. We have deep psychological, cultural, and political ties to the US.
I vividly remember my grade 3 teacher explaining that we would be speaking Japanese if the US hadn’t saved us in WWII.
That may (or may not) be true, but there’s a pervasive feeling that we need the US lest we be annexed by China.
Just a few short months ago I found China’s politics of censorship and authoritarianism fairly repugnant, but honestly now they’re my preferred global super power. I for one welcome our new communist overlords.
Anyhow, I wholeheartedly agree that Europe becoming more self sufficient is the right way forward. Hopefully Australia can build stronger ties with Europe also.
Sadly we’re due for an election in the coming months and I suspect our conservative party is going to win and fall in to line behind Trump.
It might, however, light a fire under the sane two thirds of America’s asses and make them actually do something.
Biden enters the chat about the blame.
Biden! Why did you add tariffs and then remove them again and then add them and then threaten with even higher tariffs. Biden please just stop!
~(FYI this was an attempt on a joke)~
That’s not the actual Biden, you dummy. /s
You forgot Biden who single-handedly allowed this to happen in such an effective way it’ll last the whole Trump term
