We are happy, very happy, that you have joined the light side of the force, but here you are preaching to the choir. Go knock on doors and help others see the light. Oh, and sending some money to one of the thousands of FOSS projects that keep this running would be nice too.
Anyway, welcome again.

Don’t.
Everybody hates preachers.
Lead by example.
If you want to bring more people to Linux, preaching is really not a good way to do that. We are not a religion, we are not a cult. We are an enthousiastic bunch or nerds :)
Avoid behind judgemental of people that use Windows, Mac or other proprietary software. Do not talk about Linux in length when it was not solicited.
Instead, you can show how enthusiastic you are about all the cool things you are doing with your computer that happens to be running Linux!
When people around you, do make the choice to switch, of their own will, then offer your help with all the patience and understanding you have.
All the best 🐧🐧🐧
Switching to Ubuntu from Windows is the most controversial thing I’ve ever done. I don’t even talk about it very much, but some of my friends preemptively make passive aggressive comments about it if the subject of OSs come up and jump on any opportunity they find to make a case for Linux being less convenient than Windows. I haven’t felt this way since I tried vegetarianism.
All that’s to say I’m pretty wary of “helping others see the light.” There’s more than apathy out there and some people feel threatened by the idea of someone else taking steps to rid themselves of their dependence on Microsoft and the like.

Are you sure about that?
I don’t mind people sharing their feelings about their switch, joy as well as frustration. And if I did, I would not read them… exactly like I don’t read political topics ;)
What’s wrong with people being happy and announcing their switch? Its not exclusive, we can preach on other places AND announce our happiness in these communities. We can have both.
But which good word are we going to spread?
The ones that get the most imaginary points
- Microsoft bad
- Buntu bad
- snaps bad
- Arch btw
- Wayland bad
- Wayland good
- Wayland bad again
- Wayland good again
- Use Mint because windows
- Don’t use Mint because windows
- Gnome bad can’t customise
- Gnome rice threads
- KDE good because can customise
- KDE bad because customisation causes bugs
- Tux kart
No mention of systemd? This is unacceptable.
I didn’t want to start a war?! Those Alpine users pinch really hard.
Also nobody is allowed to install Arch with the Archlinux installer script. Such people should go and install Windows instead, no difference.
Me: looks up from the Keyboard “Then i think i will install something else and debloat it so that it fits my needs.”
For a moment I thought you literally meant a penguin herder, I would be so happy…
