On masto this is used a bunch of ways - hide/show nsfw, hide/show political posts, hide/show tough discussions, etc. Not sure if its an exact fit, but I figure i’d bring it up for discussion

Tha seems like a separately useful feature rather than a good replacement for Content Warning and Masking
Lemmy RFC focuses to combine CW with content tagging. Some “tags” will have option to enable CW on them.
