As with most films I went into this completely blind and it turned out to be one of my favorites of 2023. While not super original, the acting is top notch, set design is phenomenal, and atmosphere is pretty unsettling at times.

*** Mild Spoilers ***

Creepy monster design will make you check the closets tonight. Anyone with kids might find this one tough to watch in some parts.

I read the short story, and was prepared for another take on it but it was a lot worse to what I’d hoped for. I liked the beginning and the monster had some cool festures to it but the later half of the lovie felt really uninspired and predictable. 1 out of 5 Stars, wouldn’t watch again. But hey, everyone has different opinions.

My favorite was ‘talk to me’ Don’t want to spoil too much but it felt very fresh. The first half was even kinda fun until the big turning point and the later half was seriously unsettling and scary

That one is on list, cheers. Speaking of “fresh”, what did you think of Fresh (2022)? Watcher is something I enjoyed recently as well, 2022 was a good year for horror.

I don’t know yet, haven’t even heard about it before, I put on my letterboxd watchlist thanks! And bot only 2022, I think horror is making a comback at the moment. I watched Pearl and Barbarian and adored both of them.

I enjoyed it, granted it was also one of the few movies I’ve been able to see in theater since my son was born so that might have skewed my perspective. It wasn’t high art but it was a solid film with some great set pieces. Really only tangentially related to the story but I think that was for the best, as the story relies a little too heavily on the sheer unlikeability of the David Dasmalchian (sp?) character.
