Were they built sets or did they travel somewhere rural?
Iirc, they filmed in a small neighborhood named Guaratiba (Rio de Janeiro), I think the place was called Nova Sepetiba. I know that the city of Rio has the biggest studios for filming in all of Brazil since most Brazilian series and soup operas are filmed there in fake cities. During the late 1990’s - early 2000’s they couldn’t record in the actual City of God due to how instable the Gang wars against each other and the Police was.
