In the episode “Best of Both Worlds” it’s suggested to route power directly from the core to the deflector dish and use it as a weapon against the Borg. The gag is that instead of using the internal systems to channel power, they just strap the core’s output to the dish.

I know the episode by heart, but I don’t understand what is strapped to the deflector, or what it has to do with the Yamato.
