11·2 hours agoOh, right. I thought you were talking about the architecture. And for the prices, well I wouldn’t say its the same, but let’s say that consoles no longer have a price advantage of the hardware. Because PCs gone up in prices too, as consoles gone up, so consoles never catched up to PC in that regard.

I wouldn’t call it exact same. Hardware, yes, compatible. But that is not what a console is about. The hardware compatibility to a PC if any is a positive for consoles, because it makes ports and develop on the games much easier without much fuss. And consoles aren’t worse to a PC in all cases, they still have some value. The operating system and game compatibility, and ease of use are major factors.

32·3 hours agojust pay for a PC and have access to whatever you want.
Yes and no. Yes in many cases, but no in exclusives. Also it depends on the operating system, because Windows 11 is terrible. It’s so much cleaner to just boot up a console and play something, than to use Windows. Linux? Yes, that’s better, but then you have less games to choose from (especially with the online multiplayer games). Whether this is enough as a replacement depends on many factors. So saying “just buy a PC” is not always the right choice. And that comes from someone who advocates PC and always says “PC is the endgame”. We are not there yet. Also god bless Valve (for now).
However, some of the exclusivity issues go away with emulation, recompilation and decompilation efforts.

1·3 hours agoI agree with this reply here 100%. My previous reply was just about the fact that code quality isn’t important in discussion of what takes to be an Open Source code or not. Because your previous argument was “it’s bad code, how can this possibly be Open Source” (paraphrased here just).
I also think if you cannot guarantee the process does not involve in any training data from Adobe software, then how can you proof this is really clean room implementation? And besides the fact that if majority of the code is vibe coded shouldn’t be copyrightable, because machines are not humans who has copyright. And to anyone who argues that LLMs are just tools, no, they are not. It’s more complicated than that.

2·15 hours agoThat makes sense. Most people, especially so gamers, are not good at expression their concerns or even know why it is a problem to them. I actually meant my original comment about “excuse not to like the game”, just expressed it wrongly myself. The irony right now.
I actually meant what you say, by people not knowing how to express some other issues, or not thinking about it (but being affected), the focus goes to more obvious and easy to point issues. And to some extend it is actually an excuse, because not having seemless landing I think wouldn’t be a big deal if everyone had fun.
But maybe I’m wrong about this, because games and gamers evolve too. And for such simulation styled games going in and out of planets its a given to them to have a feature like seemless transitions. So when I say that I struggle how this is a game breaking issue to them to a point the refund or stop playing, or don’t even buy it, it sounds too extreme. Especially players who didn’t experience the game yet and never will just because of it.

51·15 hours agoEdit: Just clarified a single sentence.
But what if I deliberately make it hard to read, like mangling it or minifying it?
That you would not distribute the original source code, right? That is A source code, not THE. The generated source code by Claude Ai is THE new source code, there is no higher code generated from it. It is the implementation, the original source. It has an Open Source license. They do not mangle it and distribute a manipulated mangled version and hide the original source code.
What you criticize is the quality of code. But that is not a definition if something is Open Source. By all definitions, the distribution of original source code and a license compatible with Open Source is basically what Open Source means.
Only having the source code distributed is not open source in spirit.
Correct. It requires a license compatible with Open Source, which it is in this case.
“Opening” the source code of slop, with tons of meaningless boilerplates, non-logical paths and flows, heavily coupled modules and functions, thousand-line long functions, achieves none of the purpose of the intention.
This is irrelevant for a definition to be Open Source or not.
It’s still free and Open Source. Why do you want switch? I’m not a user of Bitwarden, just asking out of curiosity.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What type of UI navigation do you prefer on a computer?
4·17 hours agoi3wm https://i3wm.org/ however it’s X11 only, no Wayland support. Sway https://swaywm.org/ is a close replacement for i3, but for Wayland. Almost a drop in replacement. I didn’t use it for long time, because I actually wanted to have automatic tiling and i3 was too much manual work for my taste. But from the way you describe it, it reminded me how a typical i3 user would respond.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What type of UI navigation do you prefer on a computer?
4·18 hours agoFirst, two days ago there there was a post that might interest you (BTW I still don’t get how to link properly in Lemmy): https://lemmy.ml/post/53788147 - Opinions on Niri (and scrollable window managers)?
I always found Niri intriguing. But never tried this type of window managing, because two reasons: a) if windows are layed out out of my view, I still have to scroll or search otherwise, so it is it really a win against floating windows? At least this was my thought process, and b) the automatic tiling is in my flesh and blood, not sure how this would affect me as my thinking and every operation is hard wired to it. But tiling of windows comes with their own problems as you know.
Opening a window that is basically fullscreen or its own size without getting tiled, has its pros. I don’t use Niri, but the KDE extension “Karousel” works pretty well so far. I can still float single window or put them in a stack, or tile (up and bottom part of a group), and I still have my multiple desktops. So it’s a bit weird at the moment, but maybe just need time to get used to it and to rewire some of my brain. It’s too early to talk about experience and what issues could popup. This is my current situation and thoughts about the Niri concept (just not Niri directly).

1·18 hours agoWhat irks me about this is that a modder has been able to actually do it, without access to their engine and supposedly doing it in their spare time and for free.
Okay, that’s actually amazing and crazy. Modders never stop amazing me. Bethesda still works on the game, so there must be technical reasons why they don’t do it then. Maybe there are edge cases when this doesn’t work well or has side effects. I can fully see why someone gets disappointed if this is actually possible.

I think Cloudflare didn’t that Deno in combination with an Ai agent was imperceptible from a human maybe? While they can’t do much against Ai agents, they could at least eliminate one of their main source of pain by buying it out and controlling it.
Am I crazy to think that?
