Yeah. I wonder if that’s in preparation for requiring you to eat.

It won’t be long before we get a bacon cowboy.
Most of the features we’ve been getting, like fishing, are ported from Light No Fire. So it would make sense for this to be some sort of cooking update, like cooking meat from fish and fauna. I don’t know how I would feel if they introduced a requirement to eat in NMS, but if they don’t add some sort of requirement, it feels very unnecessary.
Maybe we will get cookable meat from fauna
Jeff Rose@lemmy.worldto No Man's Sky@lemmy.world•About Those Base Computers in the Wild…English2·4 months agoI’ve play for MANY hours and only found one. I get the impression they’re pretty rare.
OK, unfortunately it looks like this issue has gone from kind of annoying to game breaking. I can no longer be at my base for long without the game locking up. Maybe it’s an unrelated defect and just a coincidence, but maybe not. 😠
What’s funny is since posting this, two more people have built bases on top of mine. 🙄
On the one hand, being in a secluded system by yourself means stuff like this doesn’t happen. On the other hand, it’s generally more fun to have people around in a multiplayer game. Trade-offs, I guess. 🤷♂️
Agreed. If they can’t catch overlapping bases up front because of connectivity issues, some sort of cleanup process would make sense. Check the timestamps of Base Computer placement or Upload; the first one wins and the others get deleted. Parts from deleted bases show up in the Base Salvage Capsule like normal.
Jeff Rose@lemmy.worldto No Man's Sky@lemmy.world•Expedition 2 redux (The Normandy Frigate) notes2·8 months agoIs there any reason to do it if you have already done Expedition 2? Any new rewards that weren’t in the original? I haven’t heard of anything.
If I remember correctly, once I finished the final battle the ship automatically landed nearby, ready to be claimed. I don’t think I even claimed it in the Expedition tab before it happened. I know I wouldn’t have had 1400 nanites.
It’s possible you missed the ship or that the expedition glitched. The bug might have gotten patched in an update but it didn’t matter to you because your game had already converted to Normal. Poking around Reddit, it sounds like others had similar problems claiming the ship.
Within the Expedition, you will get the ship as part of the storyline for free. If you go to the Quicksilver vendor to try to claim it, it will take nanites.

When you start a new save, there are different game types you can choose like Creative, Suvival, and Expedition. They each have their own rules and settings. In this case when I say Normal, I mean the default game type and specifically not an Expedition.
I’ve literally killed around 3 dozen. Nothing so far. I just wish I knew I wasn’t wasting my time.
Yeah, you crush the juicy grub and it makes the Vile Queen attack. Supposedly the queen drops the different helms but I have killed SO many and gotten nothing with my expedition save.
Jeff Rose@lemmy.worldto No Man's Sky@lemmy.world•Was super excited to see the 5.0 changes. Until I discovered my long time base is completely ruined and our 'home' system planets have changed.2·1 year agoThat sucks. I’ve checked multiple bases across my saves, and somehow none of them were impacted. I expected at least a couple of them to be trashed because I tend to build along the terrain and into caves. While surfaces features of the planets changed, the terrain itself seemed to stay the same.
I’m not holding my breath though. Worlds Part 2 is coming eventually and there’s no telling what will happen.
I don’t know of guide, but off the top of my head…
Quest List
Complete the Artemis Storyline (That is a requirement to trigger other quests).
Jumping between systems will eventually trigger…
- A freighter rescue mission, which gets you a freighter
- Dreams of the Deep
- The Settlers, which gets you a settlement
- Under a Rebel Star
- A Trace of Metal once you complete the Artemis Storyline and The Settlers
- They Who Returned once you complete the Artemis Storyline and have visited a Harmonic Camp
Buying a Void Egg will trigger the Starbirth quest Sending frigates on expeditions will eventually get you the Dream Aerial plans
Many of these quests result in rewards like ships, appearance modifications, companions, etc.
I’ve seen both happen in previous updates, so I don’t know what the intention was with this particular update.
Honestly, I am not seeing a big difference so far. I loaded my various saves and checked to see if any of my bases were affected, but didn’t see much of a change. Yes, clouds and water are better looking, and some planets had some new terrain features, but nothing major. I wonder if they limited the impacts to existing inhabited planets?
Yes, there have been broad and focused terrain generation changes in previous updates that have wiped out bases, especially if they’re built in a cave or follow the existing terrain.
Quite often you just find out the hard way… You teleport in only to find yourself hovering in the sky or embedded in the ground. 😅
I wish this patch had done more. I still have a lot of issues with the new base parts and textures. Maybe in 5.73. 🤞
