There is a study that showed empirically that reducing the media coverage (and strictly avoiding coverage of methods and some other aspects) of suicides reduced the rates of suicide in the affected populations.

So there’s science behind the avoidance.

IMHO the media do seem fairly clumsy going about it though.

I have an 18yo dog. She’s very near the end of her life. Deaf, hair falling out, slowly losing motor control and strength, and can’t climb stairs anymore. She’s still happy, and doesn’t appear to be suffering even though she does require a bit of extra care now.

I can’t bring my self to euthanize her, because she can’t make the decision unlike a human could.

I hope that one day we wake up and she’s died peacefully in her sleep.

As reluctant as I am to use the word “innovation” I think it’s that rather than optimization.

Those companies started off as plucky underdogs, doing whatever they do slightly better than the incumbents of the time.

Now that they’re each the monopolistic incumbent, they have no need to do anything better than their competition.

Those EV R&D subsidies are just socialization of that risk. The risk is still there regardless of who is paying to mitigate it.

Frankly, automotive products are so entrenched that no automotive company needs any social support at all.

IMHO most therapists are just facilitating you ‘sorting your own shit out’. Which means any method of ‘shit sorting’ will help.

The most effective therapy I’ve ever had was from a friend who, rather than saying “deal with it” said “find a way to deal with it”.
