This article was posted by someone the other day in relation to Proton’s AI slop, and it mentions:
So who’s left? Fastmail are encouraging AI users with an MCP server.
Also, Fastmail are union busters. They fired most of a union bargaining unit in 2024. Fastmail said this was just a restructuring. One that just happened to mostly fire the union organisers. Coincidence, I’m sure.
So that’s not great.
I did try Posteo (via Thunderbird) for a bit and generally liked it, but didn’t like not having a way to easily sync labels/tags between my devices.
I can’t see anything mentioned about custom domains, and their site just feels slow?
I’m not a huge user so don’t have suggestions. My use cases are things like wondering what the elevation is here, or arguing over a few whiskeys as to whether the top of that huge hill is directly north of here or not.

It’s a nice thought but I don’t self-host communication. Communication needs the be highly available, and for my mental health, I need someone else to blame when it’s not working 😆

Thanks for the heads up. I would need the mid tier anyway as I will be using a custom domain and many of my needs are based around that.

Supports the same encryption processes as Proton iirc
Proton and Tuta encrypt everything in the client so they have zero knowledge of the emails in your inbox, and because of this you can’t use standard email clients. So anything that allows a standard client isn’t up to the same standard.
But with that said, Mailbox seem to be explicitly no-US in their stack, and after all if 99% of emails are coming or going outside of the Proton/Tuta ecosystem then I’m not sure how helpful the extra encryption is. I’ll wait and see if anyone else has suggestions, and if not I might sign up for Mailbox for a month and see if it meets my needs. Thanks for the suggestion!

I have seen it mentioned but went with Tuta because of the E2EE. But as it turns out it’s only for Tuta to Tuta emails.
I think Mailbox.org is looking like something I should look into further.
Awesome to hear!
My kids are getting older now (oldest is 9) and I allocate time at bed time for talking. They have aged out of random questions but we continue with “question time” that is the last thing before “lying down quiet time” so there’s a good incentive to think of questions to delay sleep 😁
I have no desire to run my own email, I’ve had enough trouble just sending email via a third party service. Proton support were really good, helping me troubleshoot what turned out to be sort of my problem (sending was getting routed through my VPN). I was actually surprised they told me the reason my emails were blocked (blacklisted IP).
Tuta has been an interesting experience. The apps feel weird, the website doesn’t have a button to achive emails (the app has a swipe action), and they don’t have a function to auto-forward emails to another address (though I have my own domain, some addresses at this domain I normally have set up to forward to my wife who has a normie email). Their email import is also a top tier premium feature, not available on the free or even standard paid level plan. I have no idea why they would make it hard to move to Tuta.
I also want to integrate with Paperless which I can do with Proton via their bridge but Tuta doesn’t provide a bridge for this.
I keep finding reasons not to stick with it 🙁
I encourage the questions (and have had some really cool ones, like why don’t we have two suns, or where did the first person come from) but yes, especially young kids ask questions because they want to hear you talk, and often they are the same one over and over, or don’t make sense, or are asked to delay something else. I mostly only answer the exciting well thought out questions and encourage them to try harder if it’s not a good question (for their age).

Yeah I agree with you, big parties probably don’t want to engineer an overhang, but when it’s some guy running the campaign they don’t have much choice in the matter.
I also agree (along with most of the country since we recently had a referendum) that our MMP system is generally working. I’d also like a ranked choice style vote as well!
Thanks for the link! I can’t see how to do this in Tuta and Tuta doesn’t support standard clients because of their encrypted email inbox. Annoying, I have to pick between the email provider not being able to read my emails, or the email being encrypted in transit unless it’s between Tuta accounts.
I guess if I use a non-E2E encrypted service and add a GPG key in my clients then I guess this protects it from the provider? But then I have to pick a provider who aren’t dicks. Why can’t companies just not be dicks.

His interpretation that the votes are wasted is perhaps true, but the accusation that voters won’t get what they voted for is not. Seats are split by proportion of votes, splitting votes to get an overhang is not getting what they vote for, it’s manipulating the system.
I admit I said this was smart when Te Pati Māori suggested it, but for a party that small it didn’t matter. It’s no less smart here but this guy is looking to do widescale vote manipulation.
The supplementary member system he wants he has only chosen because he’s calculated that minor parties would get a smaller share and have less influence. But arguably this is less fair as minor parties would also have fewer seats than their share of the vote.
Nice job!
I am finally bookmarking this, because it keeps coming up in conversations and I can never find it when I need it 😅
I didn’t think about it. I suspect a new launch product is probably going to be missing features I want. But I will probably check it out once it’s available.
How does the public GPG thing work? It automatically sends it and is used transparently to the recipient or do they have to set something up?
I am not sold on Tuta TBH. No auto-forwarding to another address, and the apps feel funny in a way that’s hard to describe. Will give them more time to decide.
I have been migrating off Proton 😮💨. Two years ago I signed up for a 2 year plan. Then the CEO started making Trump supporting comments but it was too late. Now it’s coming up for renewal, and he starts talking about how no one should be testing or understanding just tell the AI what to do, and he’s treating employees like shit.
I looked at Fastmail but apparently they are union-busters so have landed with Tuta for now. Luckily I have my own domain so the hardest part was importing all my mail 1000 at a time as it crashed trying to do them all at once.
I ended up with AirVPN for a VPN.

NZ First leader Winston Peters had said the 2026 election was the worst campaign he’d ever seen, with leaders serving ice creams and patting dogs, saying it had turned into a “circus”.
Haha “why aren’t the younger candidates yelling at clouds like me?!!”
Yeah I saw that too, but that doesn’t seem likely to have been available in medieval times.
