  • Which does make me wonder why the heck the Ancients designed the Stargate to disassemble stuff that enters the puddle in a situation where it’s got nowhere to send it.

What situation are you thinking of? The gate can’t open at all if the exit can’t open. If it can open, there’s the big swoosh that blows several meters ahead and disintegrates anything in the way. If you mean the iris, it’s set something like a few microns ahead of the surface, so atoms can pass, they just get smashed on the iris. It’s not like the gate is going to constantly measure the size of shit that goes through and visually check if someone didn’t just put up a wall in front. Also, the Ancients themselves did use shield technology that exact same way, see the Atlantis version, so it is all on purpose.

  • What we get is the “lesser” evil fixing and/or improving things

Or maybe you look at what you want and close your eyes to the things that need fixing and they leave alone or make actively worse.

Want an example? ICE budget under Biden. Everyone saw under Trump 1 that he was pushing ICE to be his militarized Gestapo, and rang all the alarm bells, telling Democrats to shut them down. What they did instead under Biden is boost their budget and scope. ICE is what it is today because Democrats voted to make it that way when they had the power to kill it. Because ICE is immigration, and borders MUST be secured at all cost, don’t you know

From memory yes. I can’t find the image, but the discussion of dinosaurs getting lifted by tornados can be seen seriously (with finger quotes) asked “to scientists” on multiple forums (Facebook, WordPress sites, quora…) from 10 to 12 years ago, so the joke was making the rounds.

I do see the “less than 6 months old” resurgence of that image, extended with extra shit on the side that was clearly added much more recently my dumb, so that may be why you’re seeing it as slop, I’m guessing someone revived it with that slop.

ETA: this one is from 2023 and it’s the extended version, so not AI touch up either after all. Also has the artist name, Douglas Henderson, and it is in fact vintage art. So yeah, easy on the AI false positive.

Edit again: looking at a bigger screen, OP might have an upscaled version, but that’s less surprising.

  • We can only do that when we know how many years go by, though. Western History can maybe count back safely some centuries before that, but beyond that we find some calendar discrepancies, we’re missing some rulers and we know we have incorrect reign lengths, and depending one which one we pick, the whole thing shifts maybe a decade or two (short / intermediate / long chronology in Mesopotamia and Egypt), so that’s not ideal. Eastern chronologies aren’t any safer beyond 1000 BCE either. As you may say, people learned to write before they learned to count.

Even the Julian / Gregorian calendar counted back and was still off by 3 to 7 years.
