I mean, I’d daresay the gaming community has a large community dedicated to both accessibility and preservation, they’re just generally frowned upon because it’s, you know, piracy. However, only through piracy can I get an original release copy of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 for PlayStation, Dreamcast and Windows. You can only get re-releases, remakes, and the like, often which do not hold up to the original in terms of style and control.

People act like these businesses haven’t done the math already. Fortnite was going to be an actual paid game beyond it’s current implementation, but that got dropped entirely for the free-to-play pay-for-skins cash-cow it became. If it’s profitable, they don’t give a damn if it sucks for most people.

We are in a stage of capitalism in which all available markets are saturated, and now to continue increasing profits year on year the only way to make that happen is to cater to wealthier customers who can afford the price increase that offsets the loss of the poorer customers.

Subnetting is so much simpler. Sure, it does seem more complex at first because we’ve been using IPv4 all our lives so that’s our baseline for “what makes sense” but it’s actually so much more elegant of a solution than IPv4 and I would suspect that once IPv6 firmly passes over 50% adoption (now stands at ~47%) it will be reasonable to start pushing to teach IPv6 first and IPv4 viewed as supplemented but deprecated.

Actually, that 47% was just overall, but if you look at it, many major countries are well past 50% adoption, including Vietnam, Malaysia, Japan, Russia, India, Saudi Arabia, Greece, UK, Estonia, Germany, France, Norway, Brazil, Uruguay, Mexico, Guatemala, and the USA (and Puerto Rico specifically).

I think it’s beginning to be arguable that in many major countries IPv6 should be taught primary and IPv4 supplementary.

The only thing I would add, and it may not be helpful since you seem to focus on technical rather than metaphorical, but the best description I ever heard of UDP that UDP is like a garden hose. It’s either on or off, and it doesn’t matter if the stream ends up where it’s supposed to be, its streaming anyway.

Nice, this has grown and become a lot more detailed since I last saw it, and fixed the most glaring omission at the time, which was no mention of IPv6 at all. Now there is a good quick breakdown of why it exists while moving back to why IPv4 is the better place to start.

Those indeed can be fun but be aware they’re almost assuredly doing facial recognition on their users, and the whole system works by always retrieving the files themselves from a remote server, I’m fairly sure they don’t even cache on your phone (I could be wrong there, though). It’s really up to you if you think it’s all fun enough and worth having fun socializing with your friends with the risk of lack of privacy in that respect. Maybe you can keep it to a minimum of anything important being talked about? Unless you have a major reason to worry about being targeted, most people can probably safely dip in just for a handful of throwaway conversations with friends.

I learned a decent bit about how biometric authentication works (or at least this specific implementation) by installing, setting up, and tweaking settings for Biopass. I also learned about how when you do first login using this method, it can fail to unlock keyrings because the password authentication has been bypassed so no password has been provided to unlock the keyring. It includes anti-spoofing local AI models, and the dev plans to have the option for the user to download and use any model for anti-spoofing/recognition. Interesting stuff.
