FIRE tore through Bourne Valley Nature Reserve on Saturday night.
Multiple firefighters from across the county tackled the blaze in Poole into the early hours of Sunday, April 7.
According to Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, a call came in at one minute past midnight and was followed by a further 42 concerned residents.
This is the first that I have heard of this year. There will be plenty of others, no doubt.
Last year, the local fire service visited a heathland reserve that I am involved with to plan for a fire there. This was quite a turnaround. We had been wanting them to visit for familiarisation for several years, but they had always said it was too low a priority. Now they were knocking on our door.
Anyway, they went away happy with the preparations that we had in place.
I’m amazed anything has caught with how wet it’s been.
