In an interview that debuted prior to Dynamite, Khan said that whoever holds the title after November’s annual Full Gear pay-per-view will get an automatic spot in the Classic. However, the titleholder will have to win the tournament final at December’s Worlds End PPV in order to keep their championship.

Khan also reiterated that the rules around the Continental title will remain the same: no interference and no one allowed at ringside.

I’m just glad its separate from the ROH/Strong titles. The Double Triple Crown was a dumb-ass idea.

Edit: Should have just been a trophy, gets ya a title opportunity and a trophy. Not another fucking belt lol.

I think calling the belt the Continental Crown was dumb, but the triple crown itself is pretty cool imo.

Also, it really should have been the existing international title.

I don’t mind the idea of a triple crown, to be clear. We just never got one. We got adouble crown represented by a belt, which they referred to as triple crown. They have to fold 3 existing titles together to do that, they used 2 and made a brand new belt instead.

I wish it was treated like the Owen Hart belts where the winner gets it at the end and that’s it.

There’s already enough belts to defend.

This is a little weird. Because now that Eddie has dropped the title to Okada, it has to be explained that Eddie is the Continental Crown winner, but not the champion, and inversely, that Okada is the Continental Champion, but not the tournament winner. Feels like adding mud to the water.

Is the Continental Championship part of the newly revived rankings? If so, why did Okada get a shot without having wrestled a singles match in AEW? Did his ranking in NJPW carry over? I guess you could patch the holes in the story by just saying “The Bucks used their power as EVP’s to force Eddie to put one of his titles on the line.” But, man, this is really fucky.

Good news out of all this, unless he drops the belt, we know Okada will be in the next CC tournament.

    • @Neon_Carnivore @GeekFTW I don’t mind a title being reset every year with a tournament and otherwise working like a regularly championship. I forgot that the rankings were back, in which case it does matter more that Okada got a shot out of nowhere. However, I don’t feel like they’ve referenced the rankings that much in general. Still not convinced they’re a good idea, but I’m open to seeing more.

100% expecting the rankings to probably be gone again by the end of the year lol. I like em, I just don’t see TK utilizing them properly.

it’s probably an ownership thing but when they had david crockett at revolution for sting’s last match i was hoping the continental classic would eventually become a revitalized crockett cup

but i’m not angry at an annual continental classic tournament either
