As a Swede I’m glad that Rina didn’t enter this year, because then Loreen might’ve not won, and I really want to go the final next year haha. But it was absolutely a big loss for the UK, Mae Muller botched their chance. Would be awesome if Rina participated next year!
Yeah, I think Rina was on the cards but might’ve given the UK a decent chance at winning, and I’m not sure if the BBC actually wanted that after hosting not just Eurovision 2023 but also, unexpectedly, the King’s coronation and the concert for it. Hopefully we get her next year, but Mae’s loss might hurt the chances. I do wish UK artists in general would accept the wild and unpredictable nature of Eurovision rather than see it as a risk to their career.
There’s absolutely a possibility that the BBC didn’t want to win, yeah. I feel like artists would be more inclined to participate if the UK got better results, and I was hoping that Sam Ryder’s success would get them to start taking it seriously. I’m curious if they would get better results if they started to host a national selection with tv voting. I’m really rooting for them, they have so much potential!
