Didn’t an American join the Russian army and then they beat him up, accusing him of being a spy? Can’t even remember whether they killed him.

Is he aware about the Russian meat wave tactics? He could end up as more “meat” in an unsuccessful assault raid.

On some level I kind of respect that dedication, even if this person’s clearly not thinking things through.

Most people in this country are keyboard commandos who support any war that their preferred news program tells them to until someone wants them to go fight it.

Someone wanting to potentially kill people for the wrong reasons is not worthy of respect.

If you feel so American you think it’s time to overthrow the government, then how does joining the Russian military factor in?

From where I’m sitting it doesn’t look American at all but like you’re the personal follower of a single man.

I’d be really interested in seeing this man’s mental health evaluation.

I have a feeling the answer starts with a Q and gets really weird, really quickly.

I’m guessing your subtly criticising people who support Ukraine’s defence from Russian imperialism?

Just a hunch, if not, I’m sorry, a lot of people who support Russian imperialism on lemmy.

Yes, I’m criticizing. I’m anti-war, and I’ve always found it silly how people in our country view war like they do a football game, and the only time we’ve ever seen any real resistance to foreign entanglements is when we made people go fight the war themselves.

But if there’s a widespread enlistment and Americans do explicitly sign up to go fight for Ukraine, however unlikely, I’ll gladly change my position.

So you think when an imperial country tried to invade another one against the people’s will they should just accept it?

There are many more americans in Ukraine’s foreign legion than the Russian.

Oh the irony. And no, Ukraine has every right to defend themselves. I just don’t support US involvement.

There are many more americans in Ukraine’s foreign legion than the Russian.

I certainly believe it, because our government always lies to us about our involvement in foreign wars.

I am not questioning that Russia is bad. I am questioning why a conservative would fight for the side that is treasonous to join and might literally kill you when the other side is also willing to train even the most far-right radicals.

E: What’s with the downvotes? Am I supposed to pretend that Ukraine doesn’t have a problem with the far right?

You’re being disingenuous because you’re trying to paint the entirety of Ukraine as nazis, but I’ll answer in good faith anyway: Because they swallowed the propaganda from tucker carlson and his ilk. Not to mention Russia itself is incredibly regressive. They basically made it illegal to be gay just last year. US conservatives love that shit.

I said that nazis have gone to Ukraine for military training in a post that implied Russia was even more fascist.

This doesn’t imply that all of Ukraine’s military are nazis, only that nazis have gone to Ukraine for military training.

            Ya’ll need better reading comprehension.

Because they swallowed the propaganda from tucker carlson and his ilk.

It’s fucking wild if this guy considered Ukraine so woke that he had to go to Russia.

EDIT By all means, downvote, but identity politics failed, and it’s because you decided someone saying a mean word was a more important political concern than someone being able to feed their kids. It’s that simple.

It seems apparent that Americans have decided that mean words are no longer an important concern culturally. Still a shitty thing to say, but the majority doesn’t care.

It’s not about the person you’re insulting. That you can’t realize that or come up with a better insult explains a lot.

The issue isn’t the person you’re insulting being insulted. It’s that using the word as an insult means it is a bad thing to be. It is telling everyone who does have a mental deficiency that their existence is something to be looked down upon. If it’s a bad thing to call someone, it must be a bad thing to be.

Maybe the fact you can’t recognize this says something about your mental acuity…

The term mentally retarded is no longer a medically recognized term, at least in the US.
